A Room Designed Around One Feeling
Plan a small room around the way you want it to feel, using drawings and notes.

Time: 60–90 minutes
This is a paper design exercise, not a shopping list or a furniture-moving task. You can return to it over several sessions.
What you need
- paper
- pen
Try this idea
- Choose one feeling, such as sheltered, spacious, or lively, and write three details that suggest it to you.
- Sketch a simple room outline with a door and window. Accuracy is optional.
- Place a few basic furniture shapes, leaving a clear route through the room.
- Add notes about light, surfaces, and a place for something personally meaningful.
- Review each choice against your feeling and change one that does not fit. Save the plan for later.
A smaller version
Choose one corner and describe how it could feel.
A good place to stop
A room outline and three intentional choices make a complete first plan.
Make it work for you
Use words instead of drawing or ask someone to record your ideas. Keep the planning separate from any physical rearranging.
Another way in
Design the same room for a contrasting feeling and compare the choices.
