A Fabric Knot Study
Explore the curves and openings of a few loose fabric knots.

Time: 10–20 minutes
Use long, soft scrap strips already cut, or a narrow fabric scarf. No cutting or permanent fastening is required.
What you need
- fabric
Try this idea
- Choose one soft strip with enough length to handle comfortably.
- Cross one end over the other, pass it through the opening, and leave the resulting knot loose.
- Turn it and notice the folds. Untie it, try a looser version, and stop with a shape you like.
A smaller version
Fold the strip into a loop without tying it.
A good place to stop
One loose knot that you have explored is enough.
Make it work for you
Use wide, soft fabric and avoid pulling tight. This involves gripping and is not a gentle-hands activity; arranging a loose loop is an alternative.
Another way in
Arrange two untied strips so their folds overlap.
