Weather on an Imaginary Planet

Draw a forecast that could only happen somewhere else.

A sketchbook shows an imaginary forecast with three drawings labeled “Star showers,” “Double sunshine,” and “Moon winds,” beside a teal pen and lavender pencil.

Time: 2–4 minutes

Three simple marks can describe a whole world. Use paper and a pen you already have; color is optional.

What you need

Optional supplies

Try this idea

  1. Draw one cloud shape. A loop or wobble works.
  2. Under it, draw an unusual kind of rain: triangles, noodles, or floating dots.
  3. Draw one thing growing below it and name the forecast. Perhaps umbrella flowers love noodle showers.

A smaller version

Draw the cloud and imagine what falls from it.

A good place to stop

One cloud, one kind of rain, and one growing thing are enough.

Make it work for you

Use large marks and rest your forearm. You can describe the forecast aloud instead of drawing.

Another way in

Make a sunny forecast with two suns and something that enjoys them.
