A sketchbook shows an imaginary forecast with three drawings labeled “Star showers,” “Double sunshine,” and “Moon winds,” beside a teal pen and lavender pencil.

Weather on an Imaginary Planet

Draw a forecast that could only happen somewhere else.

What you need

Three simple marks can describe a whole world. Use paper and a pen you already have; color is optional.

  • paper
  • pen

If you have them: colored pencils.

Make it

Three simple marks can describe a whole world. Use paper and a pen you already have; color is optional.

  1. 1

Draw one cloud shape. A loop or wobble works.

  2. 2

Under it, draw an unusual kind of rain: triangles, noodles, or floating dots.

  3. 3

Draw one thing growing below it and name the forecast. Perhaps umbrella flowers love noodle showers.

Short on energy? Draw the cloud and imagine what falls from it.

A good place to stop: One cloud, one kind of rain, and one growing thing are enough.

Make it work for you: Use large marks and rest your forearm. You can describe the forecast aloud instead of drawing.

Another route: Make a sunny forecast with two suns and something that enjoys them.
