Make it

Use a drawing or slide app you already have that supports shapes and duplication. No paid tool or downloaded asset is required.

  1. 1

Open a blank page and make one simple shape using the app's shape tool.

  2. 2

Duplicate it into a small grid, such as three rows of three.

  3. 3

Change one property of a single shape: its color, size, or direction.

  4. 4

Compare the regular grid with the changed version, then save your favorite.

Short on energy? Duplicate one shape once and change its color.

A good place to stop: A grid of four shapes with one variation completes the experiment.

Make it work for you: Zoom in and use the app's alignment tools if available. Work with four large shapes instead of nine.

Another route: Change an entire row instead of one shape.
