What you need

Meet the Cable Nestling or Laundry Chair Guardian. You can build this field guide one entry at a time with supplies you already own.

  • paper
  • pen

If you have them: colored pencils.

Make it

Meet the Cable Nestling or Laundry Chair Guardian. You can build this field guide one entry at a time with supplies you already own.

  1. 1

Divide a page into four roomy sections, or use four separate pages.

  2. 2

Invent four friendly household beings based on ordinary shapes or small messes.

  3. 3

For each, add a simple sketch, its habitat, and one sign that it has visited.

  4. 4

Give each being one kindness it appreciates, such as a sunny patch or a gently untangled cable.

  5. 5

Title the guide and choose your favorite entry. Leave unfinished sections for another day.

Short on energy? Make just one entry with a name and a sentence.

A good place to stop: One named creature with a habitat is a valid first edition.

Make it work for you: Use words without pictures, large sketches without labels, or voice notes. Rest between entries.

Another route: Make a field guide to imaginary weather inside a room.
