Three loose paper shapes form a landscape on cream paper: a lavender mountain, teal hill, and coral sun. Scissors and paper scraps sit beside it on a wooden table.

Make it

Skip the glue. This landscape is allowed to become something else, using scraps you already have.

  1. 1

Tear three large shapes from scrap paper. Uneven edges can become coastlines or mountains.

  2. 2

Overlap them on a clear surface to make an island or mountain scene.

  3. 3

Move just one piece to turn it into an impossible place. Pick an arrangement to enjoy before putting the scraps away.

Short on energy? Use two scraps without tearing them.

A good place to stop: One arrangement that catches your eye is enough.

Make it work for you: Use existing pieces if tearing is uncomfortable. Slide large pieces with the side of your hand.

Another route: Arrange the shapes as a creature instead of a landscape.
