A sketchbook leaf drawing turns branching veins into teal, lavender, and coral transit routes, with stops named Stem Station, Dewdrop Junction, Sunbeam Stop, and Tip Terminal. A real leaf and colored pencils lie beside it.

What you need

Use a leaf you already have, one you can see nearby, or a leaf you remember. No collecting is needed.

Nothing at all.

Make it

Use a leaf you already have, one you can see nearby, or a leaf you remember. No collecting is needed.

  1. 1

Follow one branching line with your eyes, or imagine a line running from stem to tip.

  2. 2

Name three stops along the route, such as Dewdrop Square, Beetle Bend, and Last Light.

  3. 3

Choose one unusual destination beyond the leaf and imagine what the connecting service looks like.

Short on energy? Name one stop on the stem.

A good place to stop: Three station names and a destination complete your map.

Make it work for you: Picture a simple leaf with three branches if fine visual detail is tiring. Nothing needs to be held.

Another route: Follow the folds of a blanket or the grain of a tabletop instead.
