Make it

Use two sheets or large paper scraps. Wide strips make the pattern easier to see; glue is not needed.

  1. 1

Fold one sheet in half. From the folded edge, cut three or four parallel slits, stopping well before the open edge so the border stays intact.

  2. 2

Unfold the base. Cut the second sheet into broad strips that fit through the slits.

  3. 3

Weave one strip over and under the base strips. Start the next strip in the opposite pattern.

  4. 4

Add a few rows and gently space them out. Leave the ends loose.

Short on energy? Weave a single strip through the base.

A good place to stop: Two alternating rows make a complete sampler.

Make it work for you: Use a pre-cut base and strips if cutting is difficult. Weaving still involves hand coordination; take breaks rather than forcing tight gaps.

Another route: Use contrasting scrap paper so the crossings are more visible.
