Make it
Use three already-cut strips and a longer fabric scrap to loosely hold their starting ends together. Cutting tools are not part of this version.
- 1
Gather the three strip ends and secure them loosely with the extra scrap, leaving three free lengths.
- 2
Lay out the lengths side by side. Cross the right length over the middle, then the left length over the new middle.
- 3
Repeat slowly for a short section, keeping the braid loose rather than pulling hard.
- 4
Leave the end unfastened so you can unravel it, or wrap another scrap around it if you have one.
Short on energy? Make one right crossing and one left crossing.
A good place to stop: A few visible crossings make a complete sample.
Make it work for you: Use broad, soft strips and take breaks. This requires coordinated hand use; arranging three parallel strips is a lower-demand alternative.
Another route: Vary the widths of the three strips and compare the resulting braid.
