Three curled paper comets in lavender, coral, and teal point toward drawings of a moon-filled teacup, a planet in a sock, and a house on a cloud. A hand holds the teal comet’s tail.

What you need

Use paper you have. Loose arrangements work well; glue is optional and drying time is not included.

  • paper
  • scissors
  • pen

If you have them: glue, colored pencils.

Make it

Use paper you have. Loose arrangements work well; glue is optional and drying time is not included.

  1. 1

Cut three broad paper strips and keep a spare piece of paper as your background.

  2. 2

Curl each strip loosely around a pen, then slide it off. Leave a section uncurled for a tail.

  3. 3

Arrange the curls on your background and draw a trail behind each.

  4. 4

Name their destinations, such as Planet Lost Teaspoon. Leave the pieces loose, or glue them if you want to keep the arrangement.

Short on energy? Use one pre-cut strip and give it a loose bend.

A good place to stop: One curled comet and a destination make a complete scene.

Make it work for you: Skip cutting and curling if hand use is uncomfortable. Arrange pre-cut pieces flat and draw the curves.

Another route: Turn your curls into sleeping snails rather than comets.
