Don’t Forget Protective Equipment in Your DIY Toolbox

As you look at the four walls of your home, chances are you take a great deal of pride in it, especially if you are the do-it-yourself type. You not only work hard for your family, but you work on your home as well. However, an often-overlooked aspect is using appropriate protective equipment. You shouldn’t forget it. If you haven’t done so already, here are some safety items you should keep in your toolbox.

Respirator Mask

You will need a respirator mask for many different types of DIY projects. This type of safety equipment might be needed for such activities as yard work, installing drywall, and painting. Doing these endeavors without a respirator mask could put your lungs at risk of inhaling pollutants. Unfortunately, it can be challenging to determine which mask you need. There are full face masks that either protect the eyes and lungs from airborne particulates such as mold, or masks that protect from all of these elements and have brass fittings to protect from chemicals as well. There is also a simpler mask that fits around your head and will protect you from dust and paint fumes.

Safety Shoes

Safety shoes aren’t the first thing you might think of for personal protection equipment on a DIY project, but they can protect you from a variety of potential hazards. First of all, they can protect you from a number of different foot injuries, including crushed feet, broken bones, and sprains. Unprotected feet can also suffer a number of cuts and lacerations or even possibly burns and other contamination incidents.

Goggles

Safety goggles have a lot of surprising uses. Did you know that they are used in auto racing and other sports in order to prevent eye trauma? However, they are also useful if you are handling a do-it-yourself project that involves harsh chemicals. They also can protect you from heavy dust, especially if you are doing activities such as brush mowing.

Gloves

You shouldn’t underestimate the importance of safety gloves for your do-it-yourself project either, especially if you are doing any type of cabinetry work or other types of work with your hands. The best thing about gloves is that they protect you from many types of hand injuries. That alone could potentially make them a godsend for many of your endeavors.

Hopefully, we have demonstrated that safety equipment is a must for many of your do-it-yourself endeavors. There is nothing wrong with doing a project on your own and saving money; just make sure that you are safe while doing it!
