Hand mirror

I had an old mirror, so I decided to craft a brand-new frame for it.
It is made our of hardboard of a box. decorative reliefs done with the impasto.
I’m currently in the process of adding more floral design and going to color it.

To embark on this project, you will need some essential materials: a cardboard box, Gesso, Impasto, double-sided tape, a cutter, a pencil, paintbrushes, a spatula, and decorative items like diamonds or other embellishments.

Here’s a step-by-step guide:

1. Begin by taking a cardboard box and sketch a design for the hand mirror’s frame.

2. Cut out the design, ensuring that the frame size exceeds the mirror by at least 2 centimeters.

3. Create an identical layout for the back side of the frame.

4. Position the mirror on the backside frame and affix it with double-sided tape, then attach the front side to complete the hand mirror frame. To give extra strength the frame, you can either use white m-seal or insert a wooden stick between the two mirror layers during the initial frame construction.

5. Apply a layer of Gesso to the frame, which will not only strengthen it but also serve as a suitable base for painting.

6. Use the impasto technique with a spatula and paintbrushes to fashion decorative designs such as roses, leaves, and patterns on the frame.

7. Adorn the frame with diamonds and other decorative elements, and then add color to the hand mirror.

Follow these steps, and you’ll soon have a newly revitalized mirror to enjoy.
